Final Fantasy XIV May Arrive on the Nintendo Switch

Director Naoki Yoshida has recently revealed that he is bent on continuing to work on Final Fantasy XIV by adding more jobs to the current lineup.

While this alone may be a call for celebration for hardcore players of the title, he recently added to the hype by bringing back the conversation to waters that have been previously skimmed over.

In a new interview with Finder, Yoshida touched on the idea of bringing the game to other platforms outside of its current home, Sony's PlayStation and PC.

"We want as many players joining Final Fantasy XIV as possible… We need to make sure Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we do and have them know about our online and QA regulations. We believe these conversations will take a long time."

The first statement is reassuring, but the follow-up of "long conversations" are basically a threat to the updates that are very common among MMORPG. That's why regular QAs are required. Yoshida also brought up the issue of shared responsibility.

According to him, part of welcoming in a new platform is also welcoming in a new community of players. This brings the necessity of supporting these communities, something that Square Enix wants to share with the two platform giants.

These are just some of the things that are under discussion with Nintendo and Microsoft. But given that there are already discussions and the fact that Yoshida is far from ready to bid the game goodbye, hopefully the three companies will come to an agreement sometime.

Final Fantasy XIV will be getting the Stormblood expansion on June 20.
