Zack Snyder Believes the DCEU’s Jimmy Olsen is Definitely Dead

Jimmy Olsen is probably one of the most recurring characters in Superman lore, so you can imagine the fan reaction when Jimmy was unceremoniously killed off in Batman v Superman. While some think that there's a chance that the character could come back down the line, director Zack Snyder seems adamant that the DCEU's Jimmy Olsen is dead.

Talking during his live commentary of BvS (via CBR), Snyder said, "I just liked the idea that Jimmy was a spook for the CIA. I always felt like Jimmy, you know, never was capable, that capable, and to see him be like speak a foreign language… People always ask me if he's dead, do we see him again, does he come back to life. I don't think so. It implies a bigger universe. It implies that these dominos are falling as we go forward."

Personally, I also didn't like the fact that Jimmy would die so soon in the DCEU. I mean, he's one of the regular fixtures in Superman's world, and though the twist of him working for the CIA is interesting, his character didn't have to die so soon. That's kind of like killing Alfred when we haven't even gotten a chance to watch him help out Batman.

For now, it looks like WB's plans for Superman have been put on hold. Of course, there were rumors going around that J.J. Abrams was going to take over the franchise, but with COVID-19 effectively shutting everything down, it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer.

In the meantime, you can catch the next DCEU film, Wonder Woman 1984, in theaters Aug.14.
