It's been a long time coming and Adam Warlock is finally headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First teased during the end credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the cosmic being will make his live-action debut in James Gunn's "final" Guardians film. Of course, everyone in the fandom knows by now that actor Will Poulter has been chosen to breathe life into the role but initial reports said otherwise.
In fact, it was once rumored that Marvel Studios was looking for a "Zac Efron" type to play Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, something that was quickly debunked by Gunn himself in a now-deleted tweet. Now, the High School Musical alumnus himself is finally opening up about the studio's rumored interest in casting an actor similar to him and he seems baffled by the idea that they haven't approached him yet.
Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Baywatch star discussed the MCU casting reports, saying: "Really? Wow, they could just call me." The 34-year-old actor also addressed the seemingly neverending Wolverine fan casts and expressed his interest in taking over the role from Hugh Jackman.

While Zac surely would have been an incredible choice to play Adam Warlock, that's not to say that the opportunity to be in the MCU has completely escaped his grasp. Personally, I'd love to see him play Johnny Storm aka Human Torch in the Fantastic Four reboot or maybe even Cyclops in the X-Men franchise. I guess time will tell.
Meanwhile, Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3 is hitting cinemas on May 5, 2023.
