Though Tom Cruise is nearing 60, he's still up to make two more Mission Impossible films. With Superman Henry Cavill coming out as the villain in the last movie, it's been revealed that another comic book movie alumnus will be taking on Cruise in the next MI films.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nicholas Hoult (Beast from the later X-Men movies) is said to be playing the villain in the 7th and 8thMission Impossible movies. Here's Hoult's own announcement on his Instagram account:
Hoult will be joining an esteemed cast that already includes Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson. New faces for the franchise also include Hayley Atwell (Captain America), Shea Whigham (Joker), and Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy). Oddly enough, franchise regulars like Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames have not been included in the cast list.
With Cavill's villain being able to match Tom Cruise physically, I'm curious what kind of baddie Hoult will be playing when it comes to Mission Impossible. Seeing that Hoult usually plays characters with a lanky physique, I would imagine that he would be one of those "smart" villains who manipulate Ethan Hunt with his mind. I mean, Philip Seymour Hoffman is probably one of my favorite MI villains, and he didn't have to throw one punch.
Mission Impossible 7 is set for a release on July 23, 2021.
