  • Quick Answer: Renate Reinsve reportedly met with Marvel for Moira MacTaggert, but her previous hesitation about MCU roles leaves her potential casting unconfirmed.

Marvel Studios is reportedly eyeing Backrooms star Renate Reinsve to play Moira MacTaggert, aka Moira X, in the X-Men reboot.

The studio is now hard at work casting the highly anticipated mutant revival following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, which paved the way for the X-Men to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So, could Reinsve go from playing a therapist trapped in an endless dimension to becoming a mutant in the MCU’s multiverse?

Marvel Studios has already announced several stars joining the X-Men reboot. In addition to Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, who was introduced in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kit Connor is set to play Scott Summers / Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, and Maya Boyd as Ororo Munroe / Storm.

Samara Weaving also joins the cast as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Asa German as Warren Worthington III / Angel, Peter Claffey as Dr. Hank McCoy / Beast, and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury / Mister Sinister.

Now, Marvel scooper Daniel Richtman claims that Renate Reinsve has met with the studio about playing Moira MacTaggert, a longtime X-Men character who was later revealed to be a mutant during the Krakoan Era in the comics.

While it remains to be seen whether the 38-year-old star will join the MCU, she previously revealed in an interview with Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast in December 2025 that she didn't want to appear in a Marvel movie. Reinsve believed that playing a Marvel superhero wasn’t right for her.

With several months having passed since those comments and reports now suggesting that she has met with Marvel executives, only time will tell whether Reinsve has changed her mind.

Moira MacTaggert is a human ally of the X-Men, a brilliant geneticist and one of the world’s leading scientists who earned a Nobel Prize for her work.

She founded the Mutant Research Center and worked with Charles Xavier to establish a school for training superhuman mutants, becoming Xavier’s “silent partner” in founding the X-Mansion.

On the big screen, Moira first appeared in the Fox X-Men movies, played by Olivia Williams in X-Men: The Last Stand and by Rose Byrne in X-Men: First Class.

In the comics, she played a major role in the Krakoa storylines, helping create the new society.

She possesses an ability that allows her to resurrect after death and return to the beginning of her existence to live her life again while retaining the knowledge she gained from her previous lives.

While her role in the X-Men reboot remains unknown, she may help uncover the origins of the X-Men, as Marvel is probably looking to tell the story of the mutants from the very beginning.
