The internet is yet to recover from the report that Robert Pattinson is taking over for Ben Affleck as the new Batman. However, it is to be pointed out that it is not locked in yet with X-Men: First Class star Nicholas Hoult still in the running.
Variety revealed in a report that Pattinson is indeed in talks to succeed Affleck as the Caped Crusader and should close the deal with Warner Bros. anytime soon.
However, Deadline has clarified that the Batman role hasn't been filled yet and while Pattinson is the frontrunner, Hoult is still being considered. The studio apparently hasn't made a decision yet as they like both guys, but are leaning towards Pattinson.
Variety says that Warner Bros. is adamant to find the right person for the job to fix and avoid the mess brought about by Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. With the backlash that resulted from Pattinson's Batman casting, Warner Bros. might start considering Hoult for the role again.
Fans are divided about the idea of Pattinson playing the role of Batman. In fact, several petitions to fire him before he gets to don the cowl have already found their way online. Some fans who are on board the idea of Pattinson as Bruce Wayne believe that these detractors are very clearly judging the actor based on his Twilight past.
Truth be told, the actor has come a long way since he played the vampire Edward Cullen in the franchise co-starring Kristen Stewart. He has showcased his acting chops in films like The Rover and Good Time among many others.
He is even set to work with Christopher Nolan, aka the legend behind the Christian Bale Batman trilogy, in his next film. However, it seems that the negativity surrounding Twilight is proving hard to shake off.
Whoever lands the Batman role will make his debut in The Batman by Matt Reeves in 2021. The script for the film is yet to be completed though.
