A new report suggested that the highly-anticipated season 2 of X-Men '97 might be delaying its planned release next year.
Earlier this year, the long-awaited revival of X-Men: The Animated Series was released to massive success as it received critical acclaim and was widely praised by fans.
However, it also underwent behind-the-scenes changes as former showrunner Beau DeMayo was fired before the series premiered. A new writer was eventually hired to take over the duty.
New Report Claims X-Men '97 Season 2 Will Release in 2026
According to a recent insider report, Marvel is eyeing to release X-Men '97 season 2 on Disney+ in 2026.
The delay was due to the behind-the-scenes shifts related to DeMayo's firing as changes are currently being made to the story and scripts.
So far, Marvel Animation has not confirmed the claims made in the report so of course, take this one with a grain of salt.
Considering the shakeups that have been happening in the production of the series for the past few months, it's not surprising that the release might get delayed and they are taking time to make the changes necessary as they work on the new season.
The animation process also has a longer production timetable than a live-action project so Marvel might not want to rush the work and make sure that the series will be consistently good despite the changes on the showrunner.
Fans might have also become accustomed to seeing Disney+ shows take a long time for the new seasons to premiere with examples such as What If...? which had a two-year gap between the first and second seasons.
Marvel has not revealed any details regarding the second season as the plot is still being kept under wraps. The first season finale notably ended with a cliffhanger as the team found themselves in different timelines.
