Three new superheroes are joining X-Men ‘97 Season 2 after most of the main mutants, led by Cyclops, are scattered through time following an explosion.
A new variant cover for the upcoming X-Men ‘97 Season 2 prequel comic reveals a new team that will take center stage in the new season.
So, who are they, and how will they help in the search for Rogue, Magneto, Beast, Xavier, Cyclops, and Jean Grey?
Who are the New Heroes in X-Men ‘97 Season 2?

Marvel Animation’s variant cover for X-Men ‘97 Season 2 #1 (via The Direct) features Havok, Wolfsbane, and Multiple Man.
These characters are known as members of X-Factor, the government-backed mutant team teased in the animated series’ first season.
However, the three are not alone on the cover. They are joined by other X-Factor heroes such as Strong Guy and Polaris.
Strong Guy can be seen wearing his classic yellow and purple attire, with Havok beside him in his X-Factor uniform, similar to the one he wore in the original X-Men: The Animated Series.
Polaris, on the other hand, floats above them, while Wolfsbane crouches in her hybrid wolf form.
There are also three identical figures of Multiple Man filling out the composition, showing his duplication ability.
With their appearance, it looks like the full X-Factor roster could play a major role in the highly anticipated X-Men ‘97 Season 2.
What is X-Men ‘97 Season 2 About?

After the X-Men traversed time and space following the destruction of Asteroid M in the Season 1 finale, X-Men ‘97 Season 2 is teasing the rise of Apocalypse.
The X-Men have been split into two groups across time: Ancient Egypt (Magneto, Xavier, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Beast) and the far future of 3960 A.D. (Cyclops and Jean Grey).
With Apocalypse emerging as the main antagonist, he is expected to assemble his Four Horsemen as he interacts with these different timelines. This also hints at the possible resurrection of Gambit as Death, after he sacrificed himself to save Rogue and stop a massive Sentinel from destroying Genosha during the attack.
The new season may also address the consequences of Magneto’s Earth-wide EMP, while further exploring themes of mutant survival and the ongoing struggle against a world that fears them.
X-Men ‘97 Season 2 will see Matthew Chauncey take over as head writer following Beau DeMayo’s departure. While DeMayo completed scripts for the new season, production has stated that it will honor the original planned direction of the series.
The new season will hold its official world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on June 13, 2026.
While Marvel Animation has yet to announce its official Disney+ release date, the Tribeca debut suggests it could arrive soon, possibly in July 2026.
