Wyatt Russell Called James Gunn Before Taking The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Role

Who would you call for advice if you were offered the chance to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? For The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Wyatt Russell, that person is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn.

Russell recently spoke to Gold Derby where he admitted that he found it strange to audition for a role without knowing anything about the character he is trying out for. After meeting with Marvel and finding out he has been cast as John Walker, Russell immediately called Gunn, who had previously worked with his wife Meredith Hagner on Brightburn.

"I called James Gunn, who had become friendly with my wife, she had worked with him on a movie and I trust his opinion," he said. Russell then added that Gunn knew more about US Agent than he did.

"Obviously, he's a great filmmaker, he's in that world. He said, 'if it's the character I'm thinking of, it's a really interesting, inherently interesting character because he has a lot of issues that you have to work through.' So he knew a little bit about the character, which was more than my nothing," he said.

Gunn's advice was certainly respected considering that he also directed Russell's father Kurt Russell on the second Guardians film. Needless to say, it's great to know that Gunn gave the right push that led the younger Russell to prepare for his role.

All episodes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier are now streaming on Disney+.
