For decades, fans of the DC universe only acknowledged one live-action version of Wonder Woman and that is Lynda Carter who pretty much defined the character through her brilliant performance in the timeless series from the 1970s. Obviously, that would all change when Patty Jenkins reimagined the iconic DC superhero in 2017, introducing fans to Gal Gadot's take on Diana Prince.

It can't be denied that Gadot has done a phenomenal and dare we say "wonderful" job as Wonder Woman and despite the sequel receiving mixed reviews from fans and critics, Warner Bros. is still moving forward with a third film that would see Jenkins and Gadot return.

Despite being a polarizing film, Wonder Woman 1984 made a lot of fans happy when it was revealed during the post-credits scene that Lynda herself would be playing the Amazonian warrior Asteria in the franchise, the original owner of the golden armor Diana donned during her battle with Cheetah.

The iconic actress revealed her initial reaction after learning that Gal would be playing the role she revolutionized a number of decades back. Speaking with The Guardian, she recalled: "I was thrilled," she said. "I was standing, I was applauding, I was crying, I was laughing. I was holding the hand of my daughter and husband." Admittedly, Carter thought "it was strange to see another woman taking that mantle."

As it stands, details about the third Wonder Woman film are still being kept under wraps but it would be safe to assume that Asteria will be a pivotal part of the film. I don't know about you but the idea of two generations of Wonder Women coming together on the big screen excites me.

DC's Wonder Woman 3 is currently in development.
