Willem Dafoe returned to play the role of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, almost 20 years after he first played the role in 2002's Spider-Man. His comeback alongside the other villain actors in past Spider-Man films was celebrated by fans and are hoping that this would lead to more appearances from them.
Now that we are far away from the release of the film, there are fans who are starting to wonder whether returning actors such as Dafoe will make another comeback into their respective roles at some point in the future. After all, the MCU is now in the Multiverse Saga so the possibility is definitely there.
In an interview with Inverse, Dafoe was asked whether he is interested to return to play the Green Goblin once again in the future in which he revealed that he is open to the possibility although there is one condition that he wants to meet in order to make that happen.
"If everything was right, sure. I mean, that's a great role. I liked the fact that it's a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both," he said.
It is great to hear that the actor is still open about the possibility of playing the role again. While we don't know yet whether Marvel and Sony are actually planning to do it in a future Spider-Man project, at least we know that they can count on his return if ever they intend to do it.
There is also a possibility that Dafoe's return was simply just a one-off and they did it for No Way Home's multiverse narrative and fan service (in a good way). Even if he doesn't return in the future, his turn as the character was already iconic for some fans and they have those films to cherish his performances.
For now, let's just wait and see what plans Marvel and Sony have in store regarding the future of Spider-Man in the MCU. We do know that a fourth film with Tom Holland is in the works although it remains to be seen what else they have in store.
