Authored by Eku Takeshima, Whisper Me a Love Song is a well-loved manga first published in April 2019 in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime.
The series grew even more popular with its 2024 anime adaptation. Its heartwarming plot prompted fans to quickly preorder its Blu-ray release.
But their hopes for a physical release were dashed when the distributor, NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, announced on X that the Whisper Me a Love Song anime would cancel its Blu-ray release.
The 12-episode series was supposed to have four volumes released this January. However, the distributor stated in their post that this would no longer be possible due to ongoing issues within the company.
Since 2024, the series has faced multiple challenges, with episodes being delayed beyond their intended release dates.
It was rumored that production for Whisper Me a Love Song encountered significant problems, including poor animation quality and delays caused by a shortage of animators working in difficult conditions. This is why the series ran from April to December 2024, even with only 12 episodes.
Although the distributor did not elaborate on the reasons for canceling the Blu-ray release, fans suspect it may be linked to the production setbacks faced by the companies involved.
Additionally, the sudden dissolution of one of the production studios, Cloud Hearts, likely played a role in this outcome.

The news about the Whisper Me a Love Song not receiving a physical release upset many fans, especially in Japan, where Blu-ray versions and merchandise are highly valued by anime enthusiasts.
Although fans don’t have to pay for their preordered Blu-rays since they were never shipped, many are understandably disappointed about not receiving their anticipated copies.
Some shared their thoughts on X, criticizing how the anime was managed and showing sympathy for the manga’s author. Even Hana Shimano, the voice actor for protagonist Himari Kano, shared her sadness over the situation.
