Will Grogu Die In The Mandalorian Season 3?

The Mandalorian Season 3 official trailer is finally here, and it promises to be more action-packed than anything we've seen before, while reuniting Din Djarin/the Mandalorian and Grogu. But will their reunion be as short-lived as their time apart? Will Grogu die in The Mandalorian Season 3?!

It's impossible to imagine Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) without Grogu floating along at his side, or vice versa. But it's a parting Disney and Lucasfilm were seemingly committing to throughout The Mandalorian Season 2, while the titular bounty hunter painstakingly searched for a Jedi who could look after Grogu.

The Season 2 finale blew our minds when it brought back iconic Jedi Luke Skywalker (a de-aged Mark Hamill), who ended up taking Grogu into his care so that he could train him to hone his Force abilities and become a powerful Jedi. This, it seemed, was the end of the road for Mando and Grogu.

However, this turned out to be anything but the case, as spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett (2021), in a sense, retconned this ending entirely, rendering it pretty meaningless and somewhat cheap. Towards the backend of that show, two episodes are dedicated in their entirety to Din Djarin.

He's soon reunited with Grogu, who's in training with Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). Recognizing that Grogu is torn between his commitment to life at the newly-erected Jedi Temple and a life "on the road" with the Mandalorian, Luke presents the youngling with a choice.

But before you can say "attachment is forbidden", Grogu is back with Din Djarin in their new N1 Starfighter, tearing through the galaxy at hyperspace-speed. So what was the point in that Season 2 ending? Did it mean absolutely nothing, or does a dark path lie ahead for Grogu?

Before we jump into hyperspace with our theory, check out the teaser for The Mandalorian Season 3 below:

Grogu features heavily in the teaser, and shares a scene with Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), who, despite being portrayed as a hero in Season 2, comes across as more of a protagonist this time around - which is really no surprise given the "Darksaber dilemma" she has with Din Djarin.

Could Bo-Katan pose a threat to Grogu? While it might seem like an outrageous question, if you're familiar with the critically acclaimed animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), then you'll know that Bo-Katan wasn't always one of the good guys (if she ever really was at all).

In that show, Bo-Katan is introduced as a member of the Mandalorian terrorist cell Death Watch, and, along with her accomplices, is responsible for the deaths of countless innocent civilians, which can be seen in all its horrifying glory in the Season 4 episode "A Friend in Need".

Even the Armorer (Emily Swallow) warns Din Djarin about Bo-Katan in The Book of Boba Fett episode "The Return of the Mandalorian"

Now, let's check out the brand-new official trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3 to see if we can find any more clues about Grogu's future:

While Season 3 certainly looks more Din Djarin-focused, it would seem that the Empire - or its "remnants", at least - is still in pursuit of Grogu, having failed to capture him in the previous two seasons. We see Doctor Pershing (Omid Abtahi) in the aerial traffic lanes of Coruscant, as well as a flashback of the Jedi Temple during Order 66, as previously teased in The Book of Boba Fett.

Undoubtedly, there will be a continued focus on Grogu's relationship with the Force and the Jedi, while the overarching plot will most likely revolve around Din Djarin's return to Mandalore, where he will lock horns - or lightsabers - with Bo-Katan, who believes she's the rightful heir to the throne.

It's impossible to imagine that Disney and Lucasfilm will ever kill off Grogu - after all, he might just be the biggest money-maker in the entire Star Wars franchise where merch is concerned.

On the other hand, it's equally hard to believe that Season 2 has been rendered entirely inconsequential. But let's suppose they do kill Grogu off, this is Star Wars we're talking about - "no one is ever truly gone".

"This is the one that you saved?" The Armorer asks Din Djarin in The Mandalorian Season 3 teaser. Let's certainly hope so!
