Leading up to the release of Wicked, fans have been wondering whether original Broadway stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel would be making appearances in the movie adaptation.

After all, they have become iconic for originating the roles of Glinda and Elphaba on Broadway and it would be awesome for long-time fans to see them appear as the film's easter egg.

Did Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel Appear in the Wicked Movie?

Fortunately for fans of the Broadway musical, Chenoweth and Menzel made cameo appearances in Wicked.

They appeared as Wiz-O-Mania Superstars during the "One Short Day" musical number. They even interacted with Ariana Grande's Glinda and Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba which is seen as a passing the baton moment.

This is considered one of the highlights for the people who have seen the film as they were glad that the original Broadway stars were invited to participate in the movie version even if it's just a cameo.

After all, Chenoweth and Menzel are part of the reasons why the musical has become a massive success for 21 years and some fans would see it as a disservice if they were not involved in the movie in some capacity.

It is unknown yet whether they will appear again in Part Two next year, but at the very least, we were able to have their sightings in the movie.

How Did Wicked Pull Off Chenoweth and Menzel's Surprise Cameos?

In a recent interview, Wicked director Jon M. Chu explained how they pulled off Chenoweth and Menzel's cameo appearances in the film and why they invited them to be part of the big-screen adaptation.

"There was no world where we wouldn’t invite them to come be a part of this. The question for us was, how, and how much are they willing to do in it, and how much can the story itself handle it? Because they’re such iconic people and especially to these roles," he said.

"It was like a mania. [We said], ‘Let’s make them the biggest stars of Oz. Let’s make them this iconic legends of Oz on the stage show, and let them present the history of Oz. They would be the wise women of Oz.’ It just seemed to make sense."

Chu also revealed that they only had one day to shoot Chenoweth and Menzel's cameo while they were in production in London.

"We had one night in the middle of the night, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m, on a rainy night. The moment they sang the songs and got their iconic moments in that, it was beautiful. And what was cool about the day was, I think it was really healing for everybody," he shared.
