US President Donald Trump may not have appeared in many movies, but his impact was great enough for Academy Award-winning director Woody Allen to hope for another potential collaboration in the future. According to Allen, Trump was one of the best actors he ever worked with, and here's why.

Why Does Director Woody Allen Love Working with the US President?

The last time the four-time Oscar winner worked with Trump was in his 1998 movie called Celebrity, where the president played himself alongside an ensemble of Hollywood's greatest actors.

"I'm one of the few people who can say he directed Trump. I directed Trump in [Celebrity]," Allen boasted proudly in a recent appearance on Bill Maher's Club Random podcast, "He was a pleasure to work with and a very good actor."

Allen added props to working with Trump, "He was very polite, hit his mark, did everything correctly, and had a real flair for show business. I could direct him now. If he would let me direct him now that he's president, I think I could do wonders."

The director clarified that while he supported Trump's "charismatic quality" for TV, he voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 and disagrees with the current president on "99%" of the issues.

"I'm surprised he wanted to go into politics," which Allen described as "nothing but headaches and critical decisions and agony."

During Trump's scene, he was interviewed by a reporter about his latest real estate, ending with a rare turn of self-deprecating humor, "Well, I'm working on buying St. Patrick's Cathedral. Maybe doing a little rip-down job and putting up a very, very tall and beautiful building."

"I disagree with many, almost all, not all, but almost all of his politics, of his policies," Allen admitted, considering that Trump used to be someone who "played golf", "judged beauty contests" to suddenly swoop in on the issues of politics, which the director considered "beyond him."

Still, when it came to working on set again, "I would like to direct him now as president, and let me make the decisions. But that's not gonna happen."
