The Lord of the Rings is written by the brilliant writer J.R.R. Tolkien. It spawned a hit movie series that still lives in the hearts of the fans. The book series opened fans into the world of hobbits and the mystery of the One Ring.

There is no doubt that thousands have read the book. Many still read it following the success of the Lord of the Rings movie series. So, what makes it a hit among readers?

1. The Lord of the Rings was well-written and worth reading

Many of those who watched the first Lord of the Rings movie immediately became a fan. The movie is mind-blowing, poignant, and moving. However, those who read the book would say that there were too many details from the book that didn't make it into the big screen.

Tolkien discussed all of the things vividly in the book. Although the books were quite long, they were fascinating and very entertaining.

Tolkien's fans were not happy when The Fellowship of the Ring premiered back in 2001 because it didn't feature some of their favorite characters. Tom Bombadil. and Goldberry were minor characters but fun. But they didn't make it into the film.

One reader named Amber said her personal favorite part of Fellowship was also not in the film. "If you love the story, but don't read the books… then you're missing out on half the story," she wrote.

There is no doubt that the Lord of the Rings books are truly masterpieces. The writing is very detailed and vivid that you will feel as if you are part of the story. It opens up your imagination in ways beyond you can imagine. It will move you like no other book will. Once you read it, you will never forget it.

2. The characters of the Lord of the Rings are lovable

Tolkien made an excellent job in creating the characters in the book series. He successfully imprinted each character in the mind of the readers that you will love not only one but too many of them.

The readers have different favorite characters. There are too many fun and lovable figures in the series that it's difficult to just pick one.

Many love the story because of Frodo Baggins. He has the sense of remote sadness and reluctance that made him stand out.

Samwise Gamgee a.k.a Sam is one of the most beloved characters in the series. Many love him for his loyalty, braveness, and selflessness. He makes sure Frodo is safe from Gollum and at the end of all, he carries Frodo up the empty black slopes of Mount Doom. Due to his nature, many even consider him the true hero in the book.

Tom Bombadil and Goldberry are also very interesting and fun. It felt like there was so much more to either of them but only a small portion was revealed. Many also love Aragorn, the hobbits, and Gandalf. There are too many to love in the book.

3. It is relatable and the heroes practice Christian virtues

Although the story involved mythical creatures it is relatable. The plot revolves around light and darkness and good and evil. The heroes and villains of Middle-earth are in a desperate war of good versus evil.

It also shows the personal struggles of the heroes. They express their thoughts through monologue and dialogue. It is also very inspiring because the heroes stick to their deep responsibility to moral conduct. Although there are times when their strength is waning, they never lose courage or hope.

It is also given that Tolkien is a devoted Catholic and his faith is prominent in the story. Part of the book tells the story of Aragorn laying his hands on the sick and injured to cure them as Jesus did.

Frodo Baggins is also portrayed like a Christ figure because he carries the evil of Middle-earth up to a mountain to destroy it. Many likened it to Christ carrying the cross to save humanity.

The heroes in the book practice Christian virtues which make Tolkien's work very popular among various sects of Christianity.
