Each demon slayer was given a gifted crow after they passed the final selection. The companion serves as a messenger that informs the demon slayer about his or her next mission. Fans have noticed that while all demon slayers get a crow, Zenitsu has Chuntaro the sparrow to work with him. Why did Zenitsu get a sparrow instead of a crow in Demon Slayer?
In Japanese mythology, Amaterasu sent a three-legged crow to a hero named Jimmu. Called Yatagarasu, the crow guided Jimmu where he should head for battle, which is the same concept as what Demon Slayer used. The crow also symbolizes protection that helped these warriors in fights. What does this mean for Zenitsu? Is he not deserving to have a crow?

Why Did Zenitsu Get a Sparrow?
In a tale called The Story of the Cut-Tongue Sparrow, a kind woodcutter saved an injured sparrow. His wife, on the other hand, does not want to feed it and even cut its tongue before throwing it out of the house. The kind woodcutter looked for the sparrow and discovered that it was able to reunite with its family. The sparrow offers the kind man two chests: one small and one big to repay for his kindness.
The man chose the smaller chest which happened to have treasure. The wife, upon learning about this, went to the sparrow and got the bigger chest which surprisingly contains snakes and other horrible creatures. Zenitsu fits to have the sparrow because of his personality. Since he is not confident with his abilities, he would most likely choose the small chest.
He underestimates himself as he is always afraid of demons (which is why everyone can relate to Zenitsu) and has mastered only one form of the Thunder Breathing technique.
In addition, the sparrow symbolizes good luck, kindness, and community, which are the qualities the Zenitsu needs to further improve as a demon slayer. Zenitsu and Chuntaro have a great relationship that is not mostly seen with other pairings, which adds a factor to why most fans love the duo.
