It has been a long time since we got any updates on the Whisper of the Heart live-action sequel. However, fans can rest assured that the film is still being released soon. A new trailer for the highly anticipated movie just got a new teaser announcing its new release date later this year!
The new teaser for Whisper of the Heart ("Mimi o Sumaseba") offers a glimpse at the young Shizuku Tsukishima and Seiji Amasawa. The two develop a friendship but what happens next? In the teaser, we get to see the adult Shizuku and Seiji living apart. Will they meet again after all this time?
In addition to the new teaser, there were also two posters for Whisper of the Heart. The first one shows the adult Shizuku and Seiji while the second one features them as middle schoolers. Both posters have the Baron in the foreground.
It was also confirmed that the young Shizuku and Seiji will be played by Runa Yasuhara and Tsubasa Nakagawa, respectively.
Whisper of the Heart is based on the manga by Aoi Hiiragi. The anime film adaptation was produced by Studio Ghibli and became the first movie from the studio that was not directed by Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata (Yoshifumi Kondo helmed the film). However, Miyazaki was involved as he wrote the screenplay for the movie.
The upcoming film takes place 10 years after the events in the manga and the anime and will follow Shizuku and Seiji as they continue to try and live their dreams. Only one of them is actually succeeding but will the both of them make it happen if they cross paths again?
Whisper of the Heart was originally scheduled for release in Japan in September 2020 but had to be delayed due to COVID-19. The film will finally be released in theaters on October 14, 2022.
