  • Key Update: Wuthering Heights has polarizing reviews, with online critics split between enjoying the movie and disliking it.
  • Status: In theaters (streaming TBD).
  • Last Verified: March 19, 2026
  • Quick Answer: Wuthering Heights releases theatrically on February 13, 2026. It may become available to stream on HBO Max later this year, and is currently available to pre-order on Amazon Prime.

Emerald Fennell’s bold new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights isn’t your typical period drama...

Starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie as Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, this adaptation of the timeless romance brings a more gothic, psychologically intense retelling layered with Fennell’s signature dark, provocative edge.

It's definitely a unique take, and early critics have praised the film’s striking cinematography and chemistry between Robbie and Elordi. However, Fennell’s more subversive, sensual, and “carnal” interpretation of the novel has divided reviewers, with some applauding its boldness, but others arguing it strays too far from the original tone. Because of this, the film currently sits at a solid but polarizing Rotten Tomatoes score, signaling a love-it-or-hate-it adaptation.

If you’re curious to see what all the buzz is about, both good and bad, here’s where to watch Wuthering Heights online and how you can use the best VPN services, such as ExpressVPN and VeePN, if it’s not available in your region.

Where to Watch Wuthering Heights

After premiering at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles on January 28, Wuthering Heights was released worldwide on February 13 – just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend.

Following its theatrical release, the film is expected to arrive on streaming platforms. While the official streaming release hasn’t been announced yet, potential streaming options may include:

Among these, it’s most likely to land on HBO Max, as the film is distributed by Warner Bros., and many of their movies are released on that platform.

Once the movie leaves theaters, it should become available on Premium Video-On-Demand (PVOD) platforms. It's already available on Amazon Prime to pre-order, but should also arrive on:

  • Apple TV
  • Google Play Movies
  • YouTube Movies

Typical prices for digital rental start around $4.99, though $19.99 (£15,99) is the usual new release price. As for purchase prices, these often start at around $14.99, but new releases tend to cost $24.99 (£19.99).

In Amazon's case, the movie is priced at the higher tier of $24.99 (£19.99), which makes sense as it's a new movie that's still in theatres.

However, rates may vary by country and platform, and due to streaming rights, Wuthering Heights may not be immediately available in your country or on your preferred platform. Don’t worry; this can easily be resolved by using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to access the film from another region.

What Makes Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights Different?

Fans may have seen several adaptations of Wuthering Heights, but Emerald Fennell’s take is different.

The director offers her own interpretation of Heathcliff and Catherine’s love story, drawing inspiration from Brontë’s novel while incorporating key casting changes and a number of explicit scenes. She told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet:

  • “The thing is that it’s my favorite book in the world.”
  • “Like many people who love this book, I’m kind of fanatical about it, so I knew right from the get-go I couldn’t ever hope to make anything that could even encompass the greatness of this book. All I could do was make a movie that made me feel the way the book made me feel, and therefore it just felt right to say it’s Wuthering Heights, and it isn’t.”

One of the most notable changes is Jacob Elordi’s casting as Heathcliff, despite the character being described as dark-skinned in the original book. She explained:

  • “I think the thing is everyone who loves this book has such a personal connection to it, and so you can only ever make the movie that you sort of imagined yourself when you read it. I don’t know, I think I was focusing on the pseudo-masochistic elements of it.”
  • “The great thing about this movie is that it could be made every year and it would still be so moving and so interesting. There are so many different takes. I think every year we should have a new one.”

However, all these alternative directions and approaches to the Wuthering Heights source material have come under scrutiny, as per the aforementioned Rotten Tomatoes score and IMDb rating of 6.3. In response to this, Emerald Fennell told Fandango:

  • “You can’t adapt a book as difficult and complicated and difficult as this book.”
  • “I can’t say I’m making Wuthering Heights. It’s not possible. What I can say is I’m making a version of it.”

This is one way to defend the movie, though the issue that many have commented on after watching it is that it's not really Wuthering Heights. Still, it's an adaptation, nonetheless, and one that, if you enjoy Emerald Fennell’s work or love gothic, psychological tales, is well worth a watch.
