Amy Madigan, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich, delivers a different kind of horror in the 2025 supernatural mystery film Weapons.

Directed by Zach Cregger, the film follows a chilling case in which 17 children from the same classroom mysteriously run away on the same night at the exact same time, except for one student.

This small-town disappearance quickly spirals into something far darker, unraveling a mystery no one expected.

Aunt Gladys’ witchcraft may have ended in Weapons after Alex Lilly reversed her spell, but the supernatural horror franchise is returning with a prequel.

Director Zach Cregger confirmed that he is developing a new film focused on the wickedly occult. He told Fangoria:

  • “It is real, and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it.”
  • “There’s a story, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit.”

Cregger also revealed that he had been working on a concept for an Aunt Gladys prequel even before Weapons became a hit.

  • “I was ready,” he continued. “I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.”

The prequel’s plot is said to draw from and expand on a storyline about Aunt Gladys’ history that was cut during the original film’s development.

So far, there’s no word on when the prequel will begin production or be released.
