Why The Blair Witch Project Remains a Hidden Horror Gem
Despite the number of great horror movies today, there’s no denying that The Blair Witch Project is a hidden horror gem, using handheld cameras, improvised performances, and minimal special effects to terrify viewers.
Without relying heavily on traditional horror gore or jump scares, it creates an immersive, realistic sense of terror that only a few films have successfully achieved. The movie instead builds suspense through atmosphere, sound, and psychological tension, preying on the fear of the unknown.
It’s no surprise that it has influenced and inspired numerous films, including Paranormal Activity, The Taking of Deborah Logan, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, and many more, while also becoming a sleeper hit that grossed around $250 million worldwide.
