Planet Earth redefined nature documentaries as the most expensive series commissioned by the BBC and the first to be filmed in high definition.
This multi-award-winning series features the legendary David Attenborough narrating a global overview of Earth’s habitats, making the viewing experience both engaging and educational.
Despite initially being released nearly 20 years ago, Planet Earth is still available on streaming platforms. And if you can't find it in your region, make sure you grab a VPN subscription, such as ExpressVPN or VeePN, and start watching nature unfold today.
Where to Watch Planet Earth Online?

Debuting in the UK on March 5, 2006, Planet Earth has been broadcast in 130 countries and watched by audiences all over the globe.
While David Attenborough narrated the highly acclaimed original version, international editions feature different narrators telling the same stories.
Here’s where to watch Planet Earth online:
- Where to Watch Planet Earth in the US: Max (formerly HBO Max), Discovery+, and the Planet Earth Amazon Channel
- Where to Watch Planet Earth in the UK: BBC iPlayer
However, these streaming services have geo-restrictions that may limit access in other regions. But you can still stream Planet Earth from anywhere using a VPN service.
How to Watch Planet Earth Using a VPN
A VPN works by masking your IP address, making it appear as though you’re accessing Planet Earth from the US or UK, even if you’re in another region. Here are our two favorite options:
- ExpressVPN: Known for its speed, reliability, global server network, streaming compatibility, and ease of use.
- VeePN: A cheaper option with 2600+ servers in 85 countries to choose from.
ExpressVPN, for example, is one we've used ourselves and have noticed it is particularly consistent in its speed and quality. VeePN is equally as great, though, and a great VPN to use to watch Planet Earth outside of the UK due to the number of servers across multiple countries.
Here’s how to use a VPN:
- Sign Up: Start your subscription and download the app of the VPN you choose on your preferred device.
- Connect: Open the app and select a server in the US, UK, or another location.
- Stream: Visit your streaming platform of choice and explore the breathtaking habitats of Earth in Planet Earth.
Will there be a New Planet Earth series?

Following the success of Planet Earth, a sequel, Planet Earth II, was released in 2016, followed by a second sequel, Planet Earth III, in 2023.
Due to the extensive time required for production—with the three installments taking five years to complete—Planet Earth III marked the final time the iconic David Attenborough would narrate the series.
The third installment is considered the conclusion of the award-winning BBC trilogy, and there are no plans for a Planet Earth IV.
Despite the series ending, Attenborough, now 99, has no plans to retire. He continues to present other shows and will keep doing so as long as he maintains his mobility.
