If Phony isn't available in your local streaming library, it's probably because of regional licensing restrictions.

A VPN is one solution to consider, allowing you to connect to servers in other countries to make it appear as though you're browsing from a different location. This may allow you to access that country's Hulu or Disney+ library, as long as you comply with the terms of service.

Benefits of Using a VPN

  • Access regional content libraries by exploring different streaming catalogs around the world.
  • Secure your connection and protect your internet traffic with encryption, particularly on public Wi-Fi.
  • Minimize ISP throttling by being able to potentially avoid selective slowdowns that affect streaming performance.
  • Stream while traveling by using your usual streaming services abroad where permitted.

Connie Britton Reveals How She Connects to Her Role in Phony

Connie Britton, best known for her roles in Friday Night Lights, Nashville, and American Horror Story, now stars in Phony as Ellen Cooke, a single mother and high school principal who shares a close bond with her teenage son, Sonny. However, after Sonny wakes up in the hospital following a car accident, he becomes convinced that the woman he now lives with is an imposter.

As this creates complications for the mother and son, Britton has revealed how she relates to her role through a surprising parallel between the show's premise and her own parenting experience.

In fact, she sees the premise as an “amazing metaphor for what happens between a parent and their child during the teenage years.” She told People:

  • “Because of course it’s a teenager’s job to, like, separate. But it’s so painful, and the way that teenagers go about it is so hard. And I’m experiencing my version of that.”

As a mother to her adopted son, Yoby, whom she adopted from Ethiopia in 2011 when he was just nine months old, Britton understands the challenges of raising a teenager. Now 15, Yoby has been raised by Britton as a single mother, an experience she says has shaped her appreciation for how Phony explores the mother-child relationship “head-on but in such a creative way.” She also previously worked 18-hour days on Nashville while raising him without “a support system.”

Through Phony, Britton explores the challenges parents and teenagers face as their relationship changes over time.
