The 2026 adaptation reimagines the story as a modern action series set in Rio de Janeiro, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a former Special Forces operative battling severe PTSD. He is hired to protect a young girl and does everything he can to bring her home, even if it means confronting his own demons once again.

Netflix has yet to renew Man on Fire for a second season, but lead star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has shared insights about what the future could hold for the show.

In fact, he told ScreenRant that he could see himself playing the role for a long time, hinting at the possibility of future seasons. He said:

  • “Could be him for a long time. [Laughs] Yeah, I actually have thought about it, which means that you’ve got to find a good reason to do it, and you’ve got to really at least like it."

He also praised his role as John Creasy, calling it an incredible character. He added:

  • “This has been an amazing opportunity, and who knows what’s going to happen with it? I don’t really find it beneficial to myself to think about that so much. But I’m excited about what we’ve made thus far, and excited to put that out into the world."

However, Abdul-Mateen also made it clear he does not want to get ahead of Netflix. He continued:

  • “Anything else happens, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it."

What does that mean? Well, future seasons COULD arrive in the future. For now, though, it seems as though Man on Fire is a one-season hit.
