Does Half Man Pre-Date Baby Reinder?
Richard Gadd, who wrote, created, and starred in his latest creation, Half Man, recently revealed that he had thought of this first before his acclaimed first series, Baby Reinder.
Speaking at a Q&A (via Radio Times), Gadd explained that he had the idea for Half Man before his first series came to fruition:
- "It kind of sat there, then Baby Reindeer was commissioned, and I went off to do that, and I was hoping it would be there at the end of it. But the genesis of it happened quite a number of years ago."
Gadd emphasized that Half Man was heavily influenced by his observation on societal repression, how "a lot of behavior from men can stem back to traumas and things they learned in their childhood."
- "This one, I couldn't shake; it stayed with me. And it stayed with me all the way through Baby Reinder, and I would always be, 'Oh please, can it still be there on the other side?'" Gadd added, "Because I knew the BBC was interested and I really wanted to do it with the Beeb. And I just would always hope and pray it was still there. And luckily, it was."
