There’s renewed interest in the 2015 semi-autobiographical drama Being Charlie following the tragic deaths of Rob Reiner, the film’s director, and his wife, Michele.
Co-written by their son, Nick Reiner, the primary suspect in his parents’ homicide, the movie is now seen as eerily foreshadowing the real-life family tensions within the Reiner family.

Where to Watch Being Charlie
Based on Nick Reiner’s own experiences with heroin addiction and periods of homelessness, Being Charlie follows the story of 18-year-old Charlie (Nick Robinson).
After spending years in and out of rehab, Charlie escapes from a facility in rural Utah and returns home to his parents. In an effort to help their child overcome addiction, they stage an intervention and send him to an adult rehabilitation center.
However, after meeting Eva at the rehab and later being left behind, Charlie relapses, descending into a downward spiral.
The story also explores the impact of his struggles on his family, including the public disgrace it brings to his father, a former actor running for governor. The film delves into real-life themes of addiction, forgiveness, and understanding.
