Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as working senior royals in 2020, several questions have been surrounding their titles. But despite the fans' and critics' clamor to have their royal labels removed, they have retained their brands.

So, what royal title does Meghan hold?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

The couple still holds the official titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Before marrying Meghan, Prince Harry used to be just His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales.

When they officially tied the knot in May 2018, the late Queen Elizabeth II bestowed them the titles HRH The Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel, and HRH The Duchess of Sussex.

However, when they stepped back from their senior royal roles, their HRH titles were stripped off, though the names Duke and Duchess of Sussex remained.

Meghan Markle Allegedly Has a Change of Heart About Royal Titles

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan revealed she didn't care whether she had a royal title or not.

However, royal commentator Neil Sean contradicted the claim, telling The Daily Express she was determined to stay as the Duchess of Sussex and ensure her kids, Archie and Lilibet would have their own royal titles.

The expert said the former actress saw how Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie benefitted from their positions as she had maintained a close relationship with her cousins-in-law.

That said, the Suits star had a "dramatic change of heart regarding titles."

"Harry and Meghan are very, very keen to cling onto those royal titles. After much deliberation, Meghan decided that the titles would be a good thing, not just for her, but for both her children, too," he said. "Meghan became very friendly with senior members of the monarchy, predominantly Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. After this, Meghan realized how useful a title can be, particularly when you want to move in the correct circles. That is the reason why they want to clutch hold of titles."

However, Meghan stressed to Oprah that no matter what, she would always be Meghan and a mom.
