Hot on the heels of the record-breaking Inside Out sequel, Pixar’s chief creative officer teases a spinoff exploring the power of dreams that will soon be released on Disney+.
“We have finished. It's coming out next spring. I'm not sure that there's been a specific release date, but in the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley's dreams are made? It semi-explains why they're so weird,” shares Pete Docter.

The upcoming series will focus on Dream Productions, an area of the mind where dreams and nightmares are created, complete with Hollywood-esque sets, actors, music, and production staff.
Recap: Dream Productions in Inside Out
Audiences were first given a glimpse of how things work at the studio when Joy, Sadness, and Bing Bong attempted to jumpstart the Train of Thought by waking Riley up through a dream.
At the time of their visit, the production crew is filming a dream inspired by Riley’s first day of school. The three lure Jangles the Clown, one of her biggest fears, to the set, and the clown wreaks havoc in the studio with his huge mallet. The chaos is caught on film, scaring Fear out of his wits and finally waking up Riley.
What to Expect in the Disney+ Series
We know from the first movie that the studio operates independently from the Headquarters. With the Emotions back where they are supposed to be, we will likely meet new characters in charge of Dream Productions and learn how they decide what dreams to film and why.

We also know that recent memories influence dreams. With the spinoff, we could see other inspirations for the stories, especially those not rooted in reality. Interestingly, Dream Productions is close to the Subconscious, where one’s darkest fears are locked up.
Docter also confirms that we will see how dreams affect the mind's inner workings. “We've continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life,” shares the filmmaker.
