What If...? Writer Says Loki Made Her Regret Doctor Strange Episode

There is little doubt that the animated episodes of What If...? offer interesting new possibilities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But what if you can change the past? Writer AC Bradley says she regrets a key detail in the Doctor Strange episode after watching the MCU series Loki.

What If...? might be one of the newer shows airing on Disney+ but the animated series had actually started development over two years ago. This means that the episodes were already being created well ahead of the live-action MCU shows that were confirmed in 2019.

"When you're writing animation, you're writing so far into the future that you can't think four years down the line," Bradley said on YouTube's The GOAT Movie podcast. The writer then stated that this led to the terminology being quite different.

"That Doctor Strange episode, I wrote in February of 2019. I think I should've called it a Nexus Point instead of an Absolute Point. The Loki scripts weren't even written yet, so that animatic locked before Loki even finished their scripts because you're always writing about two years ahead of animation. It's kind of intense and insane," Bradley said.

It's interesting to learn that it took more time to work on What If...? than it did on Loki but it's important to remember that animation needs more time. In addition to that, the difference in terminology can now be easily explained by the multiverse being unleashed. Incidentally, we have both Loki and Doctor Strange to thank for you.

All six episodes of Loki are now streaming on Disney+. A new episode of Marvel's What If...? will premiere on Wednesday, September 15.
