The animated series What If...? gave us an alternative look at some of our favorite characters and events in the MCU and they are considered to be part of the multiverse. There have been questions if the characters would eventually appear in live-action in the main MCU timeline. Now, we may have an answer.
Per ComicBook.com, during the recent episode of Marvel Studios: Assembled which centered on the animated series, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige teased that the characters might venture into other mediums (like live-action). He said, "I really believe the deepening fictional mythologies is a way to appreciate them more, is a way to understand them more, look at them in a different way. They’ve got now two seasons of What If…? ideas underway that’s some of the best storytelling we’ve ever had that you may see spin into other mediums. It’s really the most uniquely beautiful animated series I’ve seen in a long time."
Given that the MCU is slowly venturing into the multiverse, at this point, it wouldn't be surprising to see the What If...? characters appear in live-action. Who knows, we might see Hayley Atwell appear as Captain Carter or Benedict Cumberbatch playing Doctor Strange Supreme (besides the main Doctor Strange, of course). We might even get to see the zombies come to life. Unfortunately, though, we wouldn't be able to ever see the late Chadwick Boseman appear as Star-Lord T'Challa. There were previous reports that a spin-off was in the works surrounding the character before Boseman's death.
The question now is when will they introduce the What If...? characters in live-action? An easy guess would be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness since, as the title indicated, it will be venturing into the multiverse. We don't exactly know the ramifications of it yet, but we will definitely get the answers soon. Right now, we have the second season of What If...? to look forward to where they will tell more stories from the multiverse. Production is currently underway, with the possibility of getting released by next year.
