Werewolf by Night Producer Defends the Absence of Post-Credits Scene

Last night, the first MCU special Werewolf by Night made its spooky arrival on Disney+ and fans have been praising Marvel's unique approach to the story by its homage to classic black-and-white horror films. However, despite retaining some elements that we usually see in an MCU project, it didn't have any post-credits scenes that tease what's next for the characters. So why is that the case?

Speaking recently with The Direct, executive producer Brian Gay explained why they didn't decide to do a post-credits scene in Werewolf by Night. While the last scene with Jack Russell and Ted felt like a type of moment that you would see in a post-credits scene, he said that it would feel organic if they don't use that as a tease for any future storylines.

"[That final campfire scene is] in the [same] Spirit [as a normal post-credits scene]. We wanted to put, you know, a nice, I guess, button on the end of the special in a way to have it. But with this, we want it to be a contained story," Gay said.

"And so anytime that there's, you know, a tag, it's always what's next, what's going on for these characters. [The Werewolf and Man-Thing] don't know what's happening next. They barely made it through this night alive. And so it always felt a little weird that we would return back to something when oh my gosh, you made it out. Just celebrate that moment as opposed to carry on."

Based on Gay's comments, it does make sense to not make that final scene a post-credits scene since it actually feels like an end to a story rather than just a tease of what's next for them in the MCU. After all, as storytellers, they have an obligation to tell a good story first before teasing about the future of the MCU.

Whether there's a post-credits scene or not, it is pretty clear that this is likely not the last time that we will ever see the surviving characters and this is just the beginning of the supernatural side in the MCU. Now, we just need to know about Marvel's plans for those characters in future projects.
