Eva Green is set to play the role of Aunt Ophelia Frump, Morticia Addams’ (Catherine Zeta-Jones) mysterious, long-missing sister, who possesses psychic abilities, in Wednesday Season 3.

After being teased in the previous season finale, where she appeared from behind wearing a flower crown and scrawling the message "Wednesday must die" on a dungeon wall, the mystery surrounding her character will finally be revealed. In fact, she is said to play an important part in the Frump family storyline.

"It was great to get her," Miles Millar told ScreenRant about Green.

Meanwhile, Winona Ryder will be seen as Tabitha, a mysterious new character whose specific role is yet to be revealed.

But one thing's for sure: she holds deeper secrets connected to Wednesday (Jenna Ortega). Not only that, but she will also share the screen with Ortega.

“She's obviously on screen with Jenna. Yeah. So she's part of the world, but that's all we can say,” Millar said about Ryder's role.

With Green, Ryder, and Ortega having all worked with Tim Burton in the past, it will be exciting to see them cross paths in the hit Netflix series. Burton also serves as an executive producer and directs some episodes of Wednesday.

“To see the icons of Tim's career together in the same project - that was exciting for us to see Eva Green and Jenna and Winona. It was just kind of amazing,” Millar added.

With three familiar faces from Burton's creative universe coming together, Wednesday Season 3 promises to bring even more intrigue to the Addams family's expanding story.

Wednesday Season 3 expands the Addams family, with Al Gough and Miles Millar expressing their excitement about developing the show's continuity and putting their own spin on some of the franchise's most iconic characters.

Having previously worked together on the 2000s hit series Smallville, the duo draws on their experience exploring the origins of these beloved goth characters as they develop the family fans have known since its debut in 1938.

The characters were first introduced in a series of single-panel comic strips by cartoonist Charles Addams in The New Yorker.

"It's great. And unlike Smallville or Superman, there wasn't a lot of lore with the Addams family. You have the movies, and you've got the television show, and you have the Charles Addams panels where they didn't even have names,” Gough explained. “So it's been a lot of fun to build out the Addams family and delve into this world and create the world as we dive into it."

While Millar admits Wednesday is different from Smallville, the creative process remains similar, as both shows allow them to give the characters, their backstories, and their family histories their own spin.

“Our legacy from Smallville and being able to have that creativity and freedom to do that, it's been even more so on Wednesday, because as Al said, there wasn't much lore to go from, so we can make it up. We create our own map,” Millar added.

With this creative freedom, Gough and Millar can continue expanding the Addams family mythology while giving longtime fans something new to discover in Wednesday Season 3.

So far, there are no words on when Wednesday Season 3 will be released, but it’s set to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2027. The first two seasons are available to stream on the platform.
