Watch: Why Mustafar has Trees in The Rise of Skywalker

Mustafar was known as a planet covered in molten lava in Revenge of the Sith, but we see it again at the beginning of The Rise of Skywalker, but this time with trees. As it turns out, there’s an in-canon explanation as to why there’s suddenly a new life on the planet.

As Star Wars Explained on Youtube has put together, it has something to do with the events of the VR game, Vader Immortal:

Mustafar, as it turns out, used to be a planet teeming with life, but after some “immortality hijinks” got in the way, it ended up covered in lava. Immortal actually ends with the planet coming back to life, and years later in TROS, we get to see trees have grown. What’s odd is that the planet still looks like a molten hellhole from orbit.

What’s also interesting is that we actually see Kylo fighting in the remains of Vader’s castle. Too bad we didn’t get to see it in its dilapidated form though because I think that would have been a cool callback to Rogue One. To be honest, I thought that the scene kind of moved too fast to comprehend what was happening.

For now, it looks like Lucasfilm is putting all their Star Wars theatrical releases on hold, and the next movie is set to come out in 2022. While it does seem like a long wait, we do have new shows coming to Disney+ like Cassian Andor, Obi-Wan, and The Mandalorian Season 2.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now in theaters.
