Watch: In-Depth Analysis of the First Season of Watchmen

[THIS VIDEO CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR HBO’S WATCHMEN]

Alt Shift X on Youtube has always come up with great analysis for shows like Game of Thrones and Westworld; and with the former now done with the latter yet to release its third season, we now have a video taking an in-depth look at Damon Lindelof’s fantastic Watchmen.

What’s great about the analysis is that we have specific images pointed out in the comics when it comes to homages, plus we also have shots side by side to further emphasize which were callbacks. I, for one, had no idea that the shot of Angela’s reaction to Dr. Manhattan’s death was meant to mimic the shot of when Angela’s parents died in an explosion.

We also have some sources being cited from outside of the show, specifically the website companion Peteypedia. While Watchmen already does a great job at building the new world of Moore’s Watchmen, the website does give us a great update on what happened in the remaining years between the comic and the show. Though it’s only hinted at in an episode, we know that Dan Dreiberg a.k.a. Nite Owl is currently incarcerated after he was arrested in the 90s alongside Laurie; whose superheroine identity had become ‘The Comedienne’.

For now, it looks like Lindelof is done with the story of Angela Abar and Tulsa. It’s a pretty solid narrative, and I’m happy that HBO has decided to end things there rather than push the story forward. Hopefully, more people will come to it over the next few years. Fingers crossed Lindelof finds a follow-up season that would just be as impactful as the first.
