Watch Clips of Robert Downey Jr.’s Screen Test for the First Iron Man

Jon Favreau had kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man back in 2008, and it couldn't have done so well if it weren't for the perfect casting of Robert Downey Jr. With Avengers set to make a reunion at Comic-Con, Fandango has released this featurette going over the casting of RDJ, and it gives us a look at his first screen test as Tony Stark.

Check it out:

Though people think that RDJ was perfect casting today, he needed to do a lot of convincing before he got the part for Iron Man. If anything, they needed Tony to be a likable jerk, and with Downey's history with addiction and misbehavior, it seemed like some kind of meta-casting.

For now, RDJ has officially signed off on the Iron Man character with Avengers: Endgame. Though I'm sure a lot of people are sad to see him die, I guess it's the best way to cap off the character. If anything, Tony Stark has left his own legacy inside the MCU, so even in that world, he's revered as a world savior.

For now, Marvel has ended their third Phase with Spider-Man: Far from Home, and everyone is waiting on the Phase 4 announcement for SDCC 2019. We know that Black Widow is already in the works, and we're getting a fourth Thor movie. Let's hope we get some solid updates on other films like The Eternals, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The Marvel Studios panel takes place on July 20 at Hall H in SDCC 2019.
