Warner Bros New Boss Advocates Additional Harry Potter Films Despite J.K. Rowling's Refusal

The wizards are always on the lookout for the opportunity to wave their wands at the sight of any Harry Potter news. Recently, Warner Bros. Discovery's new chief David Zaslav managed to uplift the spirits of the fans as he revealed he has his eyes set on producing a two-movie series revolving around the play script of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Coming from Toby Emmerich's original idea, Zaslav is open to giving fans what they want if chances are J.K. Rowling is willing to participate.

However, Puck News recently reports, the book author refused to be enthusiastic about the project, hinting that the additional sequels might be unworkable.

With Rowling's disapproval, Puck revealed that Warner Bros. has full adaptation rights for the seven Harry Potter books, giving Zaslav the possibility to develop reboots of the other movies.

Despite not receiving the same amount of attention as the original HP films, Warner Bros., has been the home of Harry Potter prequels, namely the Fantastic Beasts series. Now, it hopes to translate Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on the big screen as well.

As a follow-up to the main HP plot, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child had its London premiere in 2016 before it set out on its Broadway journey. The Cursed Child, which takes place nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, focuses on the older Harry Potter, who is now in charge of the Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and his young son, Albus Severus Potter, who is about to start his studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In 2021, this initiative to reboot the play was first initiated by HP’s original director Chris Columbus when he spoke to Variety. He said, “I would love to direct “The Cursed Child.” It’s a great play and the kids are actually the right age to play those roles. It’s a small fantasy of mine.”

Other information about the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child film adaptation has yet to be communicated to the fans.
