Warner Bros Considering Wonder Woman 1984 Straight to Digital Release

It has been a truly long wait for Wonder Woman 1984 and some are already concerned that the highly anticipated DC Extended Universe flick could suffer due to the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). But is it possible that Warner Bros. already has a shocking Plan B in place for the sequel? A new report suggests that the studio is already considering releasing the Gal Gadot movie straight into digital release.

The report comes from The Wrap, which points out that Warner Bros. chair Toby Emmerich is already speaking with top advisors about their plans for Wonder Woman 1984. Interestingly, one of the options is to release the film straight into digital. This means that the sequel could end up being one of the first major films that will be available for streaming on the soon-to-be-launched HBO Max.

So is it possible that Wonder Woman 1984 won't get a theatrical run? Warner President of Domestic Distribution Jeff Goldstein denies any streaming discussions. "We're looking to release the movie theatrically, that's our plan," he said.

Additionally, producer Charles Roven has dismissed the streaming-only release for Wonder Woman 1984. "It's ludicrous if you consider how big a movie this is," he stated. "Everybody recognizes that, as interesting as streaming might be, if you want a huge, global worldwide box office, you've got to release it in a movie theater."

For now, the sequel is still set to premiere on June 5. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
