The Western drama Walker: Independence was canceled by the CW after just one season, but executive producer Jared Padalecki and the rest of the team aren't giving up just yet.

According to TVLine, Padalecki is currently on the hunt for a new network to adopt the show, saying, "We are aggressively looking for a place that Walker: Independence can land."

'Canceled' May Not Be the Right Word for Walker: Independence

Despite the disappointment of cancellation, Padalecki remains optimistic about the show's future, pointing out that "canceled" may not be the most accurate term for its fate.

"I think a better way to look at it is that Walker: Independence will not be on The CW next year," he said. "We absolutely are thrilled about the show, proud of the show, and we all feel like it belongs somewhere people can see it."

With a cast led by Katherine McNamara and Matt Barr, Walker: Independence won over both fans and critics with its diverse characters and unique storylines set in a small Texan town during the 1800s.

Western Genre Experiences a Renaissance

Executive producer Seamus Fahey believes that the Western genre is currently experiencing a renaissance and that the show's varied approach to the time period resonated with audiences.

"My dad loved Westerns, so I watched Westerns with him," Fahey said. "It was more interesting [thinking] of which ones did my mom like, and to come at it with more than just the ones my dad liked. So, instead of just Butch Cassidy [and the Sundance Kid], what's McCabe and Mrs. Miller? What is the little Western that is a little off? So, I always loved them... the popular ones and the obscure ones."

Although Walker: Independence won't be returning for another season on the CW, the show is available to stream on HBO Max. Padalecki and the rest of the team are committed to finding a new home for the show and are confident that it is powerful storytelling and standout performances will continue to captivate audiences.
