The first two episodes of Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song were brutal to say the least!

Starting us off with scenes from a war 100 years in the future between humans and the AI humanoid robots that they invented, the first three minutes are cringe-inducing and wonderful all at the same time. In those first couple of minutes, we see AI unleashing military-grade force against their creators, causing thousands of casualties in a matter of minutes.

After that, the series jumps back in time to our main character, who is an automated AI named Diva working in a theme park as a singer. Her only mission is to bring smiles to people's faces with her songs. One day, however, a different AI infects her system, though it doesn't appear as a virus or abnormality when she is scanned. This new AI named Matsumoto claims to be from that tragic scene 100 years in the future and has been sent back in time to team with Diva in order to stop the war from ever happening by changing key events throughout history.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song is off to an absolutely amazing start. In the first two episodes, we got just enough action to be interesting, but just enough character development to be compelling. Opening the series with a look at the very bloody war that is rapidly coming our way was a brilliant way to hook the audience in. By showing the actual consequences should our main character fail at her mission, it puts it into stark reality what exactly is at stake with these missions that Matsumoto is sending Diva out on.

Speaking of Matsumoto, another brilliant choice was to turn the disembodied voice into a teddy bear. The only downside to this character is that he's the source of just about all the exposition and there is a lot of information to get through, so the character ends up talking a bit too quickly at times. More than once I had to pause and back up in order to make sure that I was understanding all the information was being presented to me. Other than that, however, these first two episodes were smooth sailing.

This is particularly true when you think about just how good-looking these first two episodes were. Pretty is certainly an understatement when describing these opening episodes. Produced by Wit Studio, the character designs created by Yuuichi Takahashi throughout these first two episodes were wonderful to look at. Diva, in particular, looks amazing in her various outfits.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song is only going to last 13 episodes, which is a shame, but with any luck, the next few episodes will live up to the hype generated by these first two. All I know for sure is that I am along for the ride all the way to the end!
