Virgin River Season 5 has a new showrunner, Patrick Sean Smith, and the Greek creator and Chasing Life executive producer drops a major teaser about what will happen next.
Smith has replaced Sue Tenney, who he said had moved on to other projects, so he will now handle the works for Virgin River season 5. So, what difference is he about to make in the series?
Virgin River Season 5 New Showrunner
Tenney and Smith had worked together in the Netflix anthology series Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings in 2019. From there, the two developed a professional relationship.
“I was already a fan, and I was super excited when they came to me with the possibility,” he told TVLine. “The cast cares so much about the show and the fans, and they want to put on the best show possible. I think they’ve done that for the past four seasons, so it just makes it easier for me to pick up the ball and keep running into Season 5 and beyond.”

Joining the show in the fifth season made Smith inherit “an incredible group of characters and many cliffhangers. “
“There is a lot going on, and it took me a while to get my head around what [the characters have] all been through, where they’re heading and where I’d like them to go,” he explained. “I wanted it to be as seamless as possible.”
Thankfully, he dropped a major Virgin River Season 5 spoiler that has something to do with the series’ timeline.
“Season 5 picks up right after Season 4. There’s no time jump between four and five,” he teased.
Is Virgin River Season 5 the Series’ Last?
Rumors have it that the upcoming Virgin River Season 5 will be the series’ last, but star Martin Henderson, who plays the role of Jack, believes it will not be the case.
"I was told who it was supposed to be in the writer's minds, but I haven't seen it written. One thing I know around here is you can't count your chickens until they're hatched in terms of plot lines," he said, per Digital Spy. "Because there's this sense that it could be who you think, but then what's the more shocking choice?”

He even teased that the new season would be “juicy.”
"I don't know where they've landed on that, but the one I heard is really, really good. It's juicy," he continued.
Talking about his character’s relationship with Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), he hopes their romance will surpass all the adversities and grow closer next season.
Virgin River Season 5 Release Date
There are no words yet on when Virgin River Season 5 will be out, but based on the previous releases, it may be out in July 2023, per GoodTo.

Season 3 was out in July 2021, followed by Season 4 in July 2022. Hence, the fifth season may stick with its July releases.
