Uzumaki: Adult Swim Releases New Featurette for the Upcoming Horror Mini-Series

Adult Swim has always been an avenue for the weird and kooky shows, and the network is planning on adapting the classic horror manga Uzumaki into an anime. Just in, AS has dropped a new featurette for the show, and it features Uzumaki creator Junji Ito as well as the team behind the upcoming adaptation.

If you're unfamiliar with Uzumaki it was a horror manga that ran from 1998–1999. It's a collection of loosely connected stories that all center around a town haunted by "spirals" (Uzumaki literally translates to "spirals"). While it's hard to describe here what could make spirals so scary, I suggest you just read the first chapter of the book. Afterward, you're going to be hooked.

I thought it was kind of interesting that editor Sayuri Kinjo would talk about Ito being "attuned to the minute details of ordinary life" because he has managed to find horror into something that occurs naturally. After reading the manga, I bet a lot of people would suddenly start mistrusting all the spirals they saw in their day-to-day.

Spiral into the dark! Toonami is proud to announce the newest anime series created in partnership with Production IG USA. Uzumaki, a four-episode mini-series based on the supernatural horror manga by legendary author Junji Ito, will premiere on Toonami in 2020!

We don't have a specific release date for Uzumaki yet, but the miniseries promises to be released sometime in 2020.
