Robert Downey Jr.'s departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still a tough pill to swallow for a lot of fans and while the clamor is still there for him to make his return to the franchise, it doesn't look like Marvel Studios has any plans of bringing Tony Stark back from the dead. But with the entire multiversal arc that Phase 4 has been focusing on, many believe that it's only a matter of time before we see RDJ back in Earth-616.

However, rumor has it that a "new" Iron Man will be introduced in the MCU and we could see him make his debut in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. We reported in 2020 that the studio is eyeing Tom Cruise to portray Tony's multiversal counterpart and while that rumor sounds too crazy to even be plausible, it's worth noting that Cruise was the original choice to play the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist in the original Iron Man film.

Recently, the Tom Cruise rumors were reignited when several reports started circulating all over social media that the Mission Impossible actor will in fact appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness along with other versions of our favorite Marvel heroes played by different actors. Now, amid all the hype surrounding his alleged involvement in the film, artist Rahal Nejraoui unveiled his awesome fan art depicting Cruise as Iron Man. I gotta say, it's pretty darn impressive. As it stands, nothing has been officially confirmed yet, and assuming the rumors surrounding Tom are true, then it's only natural for Marvel to keep things airtight the way they tried to conceal Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's casting in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Personally speaking, I'm down to seeing Cruise don the Iron Man suit just so we can finally get some closure from all the what-if stories.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas on May 6, 2022.
