The hit DC live-action superhero series Titans isn't exactly 100% faithful to its source material and although the show would enjoy a great deal of success over the last two seasons, it's no stranger to committing decisions that are deemed unorthodox and "controversial" by a lot of fans.
Initially, fans had mixed reactions when DC cast a black woman in Anna Diop to play Starfire in the show. Ultimately, Diop's portrayal of the character would be able to overshadow the fact that she looks nothing like the original Starfire, and by the end of the first season, viewers eventually warmed up to her because she played the part excellently.
Now, HBO Max is pulling yet another daring move for Titans Season 3. It was reported by Variety that the show will finally be bringing in Tim Drake aka the third Robin to the fold but there will be major tweaks to the character. Tim is now set to be portrayed by a black actor, newcomer Jay Lycurgo who famously appeared on Amazon Prime's Father Of The Bride.
Unsurprisingly, there are people on social media, especially the comic book "purists" who weren't exactly pleased with HBO Max's decision to cast another black actor who will play a character that is traditionally white in the comics. Check out some of the reactions here:
Honestly, I do get where some fans are coming from because Tim Drake is such an iconic character that it's hard to imagine him being presented differently. But again, Titans has been known for being unconventional so this change shouldn't come as a surprise anymore. As long as Lycurgo gives the character justice, I'm good with it.
Titans Season 3's release date has yet to be announced.
