It's been over two decades since Joel Schumacher's Batman films were released but fans can't seem to stop picking them apart. The films introduced us to the infamous "bat-nipples" which have spawned countless jokes and memes since their debut.

Now, the director who started the whole Batmania of the '90s is finally breaking his silence regarding the questionable decision to put nipples on the Batman costume.

Speaking with Empire Online, Tim Burton shared his honest thoughts about the bat-nipples, and unsurprisingly, he also wasn't a fan of their inclusion in the costumes. Looking back at how Batman Forever was created, Burton recalls dropping the F-bomb on Warner Bros. for the film's goofier tone.

He said: "[Back then] they went the other way. That's the funny thing about it. But then I was like, 'Wait a minute. Okay. Hold on a second here. You complain about me, I'm too weird, I'm too dark, and then you put nipples on the costume? Go fuck yourself.' Seriously. So yeah, I think that's why I didn't end up [doing a third film]."

While Batman Forever by no means is on the level of the original Tim Burton Batman film or even Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, I still think it was pretty enjoyable overall. Sure, it brought back a little camp to the character but it didn't go overboard.

That being said, Batman Forever is available for streaming on HBO Max.
