This is your chance to see Tiffany Haddish channeling her inner Sherlock Holmes. The Afterparty, an AppleTV+ murder mystery, has debuted its first trailer, which chronicles the aftermath of a high school reunion after the afterparty host shows up dead.

Afterparty host, famous actor, and generally despised high school alum Xavier (Dave Franco) is found dead in the trailer, leading to a night of interrogation for the unfortunate partygoers who become entangled in the mystery.

That's when a detective (Haddish) arrives to question each of the eight partygoers who have now been turned into suspects.

"This is a murder," the detective says in the new murder mystery trailer. "One of you could be the murderer, and I want to hear your story. The same thing could happen, but you see it in a different way."

"My goal is to find out who killed Xavier," she continues. "Now you all went to your high school reunion. For what? Second chances? At life, love, something else?"

Murder Mystery is Back!

The Afterparty arrives at a time when the murder mystery genre is regaining appeal with audiences. Creatives have brought the genre back to the big and small screens with hits like Knives Out and Game Night, as well as Hulu's breakout series Only Murders in the Building, which is now working on Season 2 for a 2022 launch.

For a long time, the murder mystery has eluded the film business. A whole genre of literature has thrived with mystery, but it has not had the same success on the screen.

The new The Afterparty trailer provides a deeper look at the latest genre-bending comedy, including the stylistic swings the series will experience with each character's perspective.

The Afterparty Air Date

The Afterparty is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on Jan. 28, so fans won't have to wait long for the next potential hit in the genre. Chris Miller and Phil Lord (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) are executive producing the series, with Miller also directing it.

Sam Richardson (Veep), Zo Chao (Love Life), Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project), Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag), and Franco are among the cast members of The Afterparty.
