Since Netflix’s The Witcher is based on a series of fantasy novels, we get to know more about the characters’ backgrounds through the books. However, one character that’s not in the books is Robbie Amell’s Gallatin.

So, who is Gallatin in The Witcher and what is his role in The Witcher Season 3?

Gallatin is an elf who leads an army of guerilla Scoia’tael fighting on behalf of Nilfgaard. Since Gallatin is an original character for the Netflix series, we don’t know much about him, only that he and Cahir are old friends.

The official description for the character reads:

“A born fighter, Gallatin leads an army of guerrilla Scoia’tael fighting on behalf of Nilfgaard. Unafraid to speak his truth, Gallatin’s loyalty to his people ultimately leads him on a collision course with Francesca over power.”

Gallatin is played by Robbie Amell, who’s known for his role as Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm in The CW series The Flash. He’s the cousin of actor Stephen Amell, who’s widely known for his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in The CW series Arrow.

In The Witcher Season 3, Gallatin is an elf who doesn’t believe in Francesca’s cause. Francesca wants Ciri because she believes that the latter is their hope.

When Francesca finds out that Ciri is Hen Ichaer, her number one priority becomes finding Ciri rather than fighting for Nilfgaard. However, elves like Gallatin do not agree with her.

Gallatin tells Francesca that if Nilfgaard takes the North, the elves are free everywhere, and the whole Continent is their Dol Blathanna.

However, in Francesca’s pursuit of Ciri, numerous elves die during the battle at Shaerrawedd. Filavandrel tells Gallatin to let Francesca grieve because she lost her brother.

However, Gallatin emphasizes that Francesca lied to them and that all their loss happened for one girl – Ciri. So, he tells Dara that he would get help from an old friend.

In Episode 2, it is revealed that that old friend is Cahir. Gallatin expresses what he thinks about Francesca, saying that she spouts her nonsense about prophecies and Hen Ichaer while the Scoia’tael die pillaging supplies.

He then says that he can't keep leading his men to die for a cause he doesn’t believe in. Cahir then figures out that Gallatin considered his proposal to take charge of the elves. So, Gallatin asks for Cahir’s help to overthrow Francesca.

Gallatin dies in The Witcher Season 3 Part 1. Gallatin’s bromance with Cahir does not last long because the latter is forced to kill his friend.

When Gallatin tells Cahir that Francesca is looking for Ciri, Cahir takes this opportunity to prove himself to Emperor Emhyr.

He introduces Gallatin to Emhyr, and Gallatin tells the emperor that Francesca has been “siphoning off our best fighters and resources” because she’s not fighting to soften the North, but to search for a girl (Ciri).

When Gallatin leaves, Emhyr tells Cahir that division among the elves would only hurt their cause on both fronts. Emhyr then tells Cahir to prove that he’s ready to come home.

So, Cahir kills Gallatin to prove his loyalty to the emperor. As Gallatin causes division among the elves, Emhyr sees him as a problem, which is why he decides to get rid of him.

After killing his friend, Cahir grieves and apologizes about things having to be that way. Cahir then looks at the mirror and sees himself full of regret, then breaks the mirror.

So, Gallatin does not make it throughout the entire The Witcher Season 3. We only see Robbie Amell’s character in three episodes.

But as Cahir says, Gallatin is a good fighter (in fact, one of the finest soldiers he has ever fought beside), and the elves are loyal to him. So that’s probably how he’s gonna be remembered by the elves.
