In a bold move, Jensen Ackles, known for his role in Supernatural, has taken to Twitter to spearhead the #SaveTheWinchesters campaign, aiming to convince The CW to resurrect the recently canceled series The Winchesters.

Not stopping there, Ackles has also thrown his support behind his former co-star Jared Padalecki's show, Walker: Independence, and demanded the renewal of Gotham Knights. The Supernatural trio, along with their new CW ventures, are now facing an uncertain future.

A Battle to Save Fan-Favorite Shows

Supernatural, a beloved series that spanned 15 seasons, followed the thrilling journey of monster-hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, portrayed by Ackles and Padalecki, respectively, alongside Misha Collins as the angel Castiel.

However, in 2020, the curtain fell on Supernatural, leaving its dedicated fanbase yearning for more. To their dismay, both Ackles' The Winchesters and Padalecki's Walker: Independence were recently canceled, while Collins' Gotham Knights is still awaiting news of renewal for a second season.

The tumultuous situation at The CW began early in 2022 when the network was put up for sale by its former parent company. Allegations were made that The CW had never turned a profit since its inception in 2006.

Subsequently, media company Nexstar acquired the majority of The CW's shares, effectively taking control of the network. This transition led to the cancellation of several CW series, such as DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty, and Legacies, while other long-standing shows like The Flash and Riverdale announced their upcoming seasons as their swan songs.

Uncertainty Looms for Supernatural Stars' New Ventures

The real blow came when an internal announcement from Nexstar revealed their intention to retain only a select few scripted programs for the 2023-2024 season, numbering fewer than five.

True to their words, only the flagship series Walker and All American have been renewed, while all other shows face cancellation, except for three remaining in limbo: All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights, and Superman & Lois.

In this time of uncertainty, the fate of The CW's shows and the dreams of countless fans rest on the decisions made by the network's new owners.

As Ackles and his fellow Supernatural stars fight for the survival of their beloved series, only time will tell if their efforts can shake the foundations of The CW's current landscape and pave the way for a triumphant return of The Winchesters and the continued success of their new ventures.
