The Suicide Squad Teaser Reveals Starro's Unexpected Origins

The premiere of The Suicide Squad is still a couple of months away but we're now getting some awesome new footage from the film, thanks to a lengthy ad dropped on YouTube. Interestingly, one of the teases may have revealed Starro's new origin story in the DC Extended Universe flick.

The YouTube ad is actually a full trailer and it does feature some new footage from The Suicide Squad. For instance, the teaser puts the focus on Idris Elba's Bloodsport, showing him talking to his daughter and refusing to join Task Force X. At one point, he even faces off against Waller, holding a pen to her neck.

Interestingly, the trailer also highlights the hilarious camaraderie between the members of Task Force X as Weasel is mistaken for a werewolf and Harley Quinn reveals she was late because she had to "go number 2." It is in this teaser that we hear Waller telling the team to "destroy every trace of something known only as Project Starfish."

This is undoubtedly a reference to Starro, who has been confirmed to be the main villain in The Suicide Squad. But does it also suggest that the starfish was also created as part of an experiment? In the comics, Starro is actually a mind-controlling alien. However, some fans believe this origin story might not be featured in the film.

For now, it's unclear if "Project Starfish" involves an extraterrestrial or if it's wholly man-made. Nevertheless, we're already looking forward to finding out for sure this August.

The Suicide Squad is directed by James Gunn and is scheduled for release on August 6, 2021.
