The Suicide Squad: Is James Gunn Teasing a Punk Soundtrack?

There're a lot of things to love about Guardians of the Galaxy, and one of them is the fantastic soundtrack. We're expecting music to have a significant play in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad as well, and it looks like the film could be leaning into a punk soundtrack.

This was Gunn's post on Twitter:

Just in case you didn't know, "Hey Ho, Let's Go!" is an infamous chant from the Ramones hit Blitzkrieg Bop, and it could very much set the tone for The Suicide Squad. If anything, the first Suicide Squad movie kind of had a soundtrack reminiscent of GOTG, with the movie even playing Spirit in the Sky which was also on Guardians.

While this is just me speculating, I don't think it's entirely impossible for Gunn to give the music some great relevance for this film. After all, his last two movies relied heavily on music setting the tone, and with a big film like Suicide Squad, you can expect him to have access to a lot of hits. Maybe it won't be punk-centric, but I expect the songs to be colorful and crazy; but unlike the first film, Gunn should be picking the music sparingly. We don't want it to end up feeling like a trailer again.

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is aiming for a release on Aug. 6, 2021.
