Studio Eight Bit has been doing a fantastic job with this spinoff series so far. Directed by Yuji Ikuhara and written by Kotatsumikan, The Slime Diaries has been such a treat week after week and I feel strongly that anyone who enjoys the primary series (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) will also enjoy this cute little comedy spinoff.

As mentioned, The Slime Diaries is a comedy spinoff series from the primary story and is adapting the manga of the same name. The series has been compiled into 3 volumes in Japan as of November 2019, which means there is only just enough material for this one cour with seemingly no real hope of getting a second spinoff season until way in the future.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has proven that with just the right topspin, the isekai genre can still have some life within its wilted husk of a body. While the genre has definitely seen some highs and lows over the last decade, there have been some real gems, including this one. If you're not completely sick of the isekai genre and are looking for something to enjoy, you really should look towards this entire franchise!
